Does spirituality include politics, or should they remain separate? What role (if any) do you think our political climate plays in our inner journeys? Share your thoughts on whether this is a space for political dialogue—or how we might address such themes in a spiritually grounded way.
I think the two topics are inextricably woven together, but that it doesn’t necessarily mean that there aren’t contexts in which politics should be avoided as a subject matter in the vicinity of spiritual discussions. Ultimately, spirituality is about orienting one’s self towards universal truth…towards a stimulus that is persistent, but that is persistently “perverted” in some sort of meaningful sense of it, at all moments by those unwittingly engaging it… it’s the platform by which peace can be established in the face of the drudgeries of overcoming the elements themselves, and there’s really no other way to do politics with lucidity other than “spiritually”…but that being said there’s a robust culture in the vicinity of political discussion of throwing people off, intentionally, as one sort of strategy or another, and it’s created a culture in which one has to really jump through hoops/eat undesirable pies before they start to ever “get it”. The average person with dignity often chooses not to come along for the ride/put up the effort, and at times even develops an aversion to the subject matter, viewing it as inherently crass compared to less contentious areas of the culture… to be sensitive to as much is important!
Spirituality is a “virtue” of humans - a space transcending separation and division.
Politics is a “work” of humans - which came about for its need and, supposedly, its benefits in contributing to a better human life.
When our political climate foster division and separateness, spirituality has limited space to thrive as this defies its very essence. As a result, humans grow to normalize polarity and, worst of all, find reasons to support one end and reject the other.
Until we humans realize that our own “work” is bringing about our own demise, we shall continue our awakening journeys into this spiritual space that unifies our existence
Hi everyone I somewhat tentatively join the conversation as this is my first post after just discovering this community. Great thoughts :). I am really looking forward to discovering more here.
It seems to me that spirituality informs politics, and that politics is a mirror of the current state of spirituality of wherever it may be. The belief systems we have are reflected by our politics. Of course there is interaction, and when done well, the spirituality boosts the politics. The vagaries of life pervert it and push back on the spiritual development, creating a self-sustaining pendulum effect which we, as dual consciousness, are prone to keep in place. I liked the idea that it fosters duality Nice ego trick.
